Pride Grows In Brooklyn: 2023 Edition

The Together Events & Greater Good Events team came together to lead the coordination of Pride Grows in Brooklyn (PGIB), an annual mini-ceremony (mini-mony) and mini-celebration wedding giveaway for queer couples in NYC. For its fourth iteration, the all-volunteer PGIB vendor team had a big idea: get more couples married than ever before! To make this happen, PGIB 2023 took place at Brooklyn Grange’s Sunset Park location instead of its Brooklyn Navy Yard location for the very first time. With the love and dedication of a diverse and passionate team of vendors, we orchestrated wedding and commitment ceremonies for four queer couples during Pride Month!

The first couple to tie the knot during PGIB 2023 were Neesha (she/her) & Nancy (they/them), native New Yorkers raised in Queens. Neesha & Nancy met through a mutual friend during Pride 2013—almost exactly 10 years before they sealed the deal at PGIB 2023. Both children of immigrant parents, they fostered a strong interest in travel and exploring the world. They share that passion for travel and a desire to inspire more queer people to travel on their Instagram, @thepostcardsearch.

The second couple to tie the knot during PGIB 2023 were G (he/they) & Ty (she/her), a queer couple going on 13 years of their love journey. Both native New Yorkers from the Lower East Side, these artists have made it through the trials and tribulations of falling in love in their early 20s. Though they had been engaged for some time, the barriers to bringing a wedding to life had inhibited them from making it official (legally, not emotionally). Brooklyn Grange’s natural space and wildflowers amidst the hustle and bustle of NYC was a sign that this would be the moment they could finally make it happen, and they did on June 4, 2023.

The third couple to tie the knot during PGIB 2023 were David (he/him) & Ken (he/him). A pair of artists & gamers living in Brooklyn (with their 3 cats), David & Ken had been together for over 3 years. Having first met on Tinder, their in-person love story began with a hilarious, memorable, and embarrassing interaction which—fortunately for them both—led to the ice being broken very quickly. Their road to becoming committed partners and each other’s best friend soon followed, and they made it official as husband & husband during PGIB 2023!
