A Marriage of England and Japan with Laura & Masami

Masami and Laura brought together communities from each of their homes—Lower East Side, NYC; England; and Japan—to celebrate their love at Home Studios in Manhattan.

They’re both artists (as are many in their community), so the gathering was filled with personalized touches. They each wore gorgeous custom outfits from Sandy Liang and Peter Do. Friend—and ceramic artist—Katie Kimmel made figurines of their dog Bento to adorn their grazing table, as well as stunning paper flowers to complement the live florals designed by Saffron Brooklyn. They incorporated cultural nods and traditions through the Kagami-biraki ritual (breaking open a sake barrel with a wooden mallet to present to guests) during cocktail hour and the adorable English sweets that overflowed their dessert table, lovingly transported by family and friends from England.

The reception-style food was prepared and served by one of their favorite restaurants, Izakaya New York, and the dance party came alive when Haruka Salt came to the DJ table.

Together Events was thrilled to coordinate their celebration at one of our favorite raw space venues in NYC. The queer love and queer joy was palpable!
